Second Trimester is Over?!

And just like that the second trimester is almost over! Saying hello to the third trimester makes it feel like baby will be here in no time. I feel somewhat ready, but have a few things that I'd like to get done before baby arrives. My husband is always laughing at me because he says I like to change the paint colour every 2 years in our house and so far he is right! We just have our bedroom left to paint and we have to set up the bunk bed for the kids. I'm also trying to soak up all the time with Riley and Brynn right now as I know they won't get as much attention when baby is here.

Pregnancy & the Flu
This second trimester flew by much quicker than the first, probably due to the Christmas season. Unfortunately I got hit with a nasty flu virus Christmas eve and it took almost 2 weeks to fully get out of my system and recover. The nausea returned and I had really awful heartburn during this time as well but it has improved immensely since then! I'm feeling SO much better now and have my energy and appetite back. I was so thankful the kids and Scott didn't get sick! The kids each got a mild cold but are totally fine!

Baby Update: 27 Weeks
At 27 weeks the baby is apparently as big as a head of cauliflower! (I always find the fruit/veggie comparisons so funny!) The baby is so active now, especially in the evening and at night! The kids have watched my tummy while the baby is having a party in there and they love to feel the baby kick and move. My favourite part of pregnancy is probably feeling the baby move! I have been having a lot of braxton hicks already, which is common for them to start at the end of the second trimester. Brynn still says there's a baby in her tummy too and she has been practicing taking care of her baby doll which is really sweet! She rocks her baby, says "shhh baby's sleeping" to us and feeds baby. Riley says he can't wait to play nerf guns with the baby. For Christmas they each got a book called "I'm a Big Sister/Brother" and they talk about what happens when the baby comes and how they help with the baby. It's a really cute book to kind of prepare them for the baby.

Since we aren't finding out what we are having we have to think of names for boys and girls which we are having a difficult time deciding! Thankfully we still have time! We asked the kids if they have any name suggestions and Riley said Canada or Calgary. haha!
Food
As far as diet I haven't had any specific cravings these past few weeks. The flu took all my appetite away for a bit, but now I am able to eat again! I'm a creature of habit when it comes to food and love overnight oats, oatmeal or yoghurt with fresh fruit and granola for breakfasts. It has been insanely cold here lately so soup has been a staple! Oh and I can't forget about smoothies! We love making smoothies and they make for a great snack on the go as well!
By the time this post goes up we will just be leaving on a trip! We are going to Aruba for a couple weeks and I'm really looking forward to family time and of course the warmer weather! This will be our last trip before the baby comes which is exciting!
