Capsule Wardrobe

Hey friends!
I finally have a minute to sit and write! This month, and for the next 3 months, I'm challenging myself (and if any of you want to join!) to do Project 333 which is, in a way, similar to a capsule wardrobe. I first heard about Project 333 in a documentary called Minimalism and decided to read more about it! I'll summarize what it is all about here.
What Is It?
Essentially, you have 3 months where you have 33 items of clothing, accessories, jewelry, outerwear and shoes that you wear and create outfits from. What's not included are workout clothes, underwear, socks and pajamas. The 33 items you choose will be staple items and favourites that you keep returning to in your wardrobe.
Everyone's will be unique to them. We all have different body shapes and sizes, and know what fits us the best. For me, being 8 weeks postpartum and just starting to fit back into my jeans means I will still have a few leggings and clothes that are looser and feel comfortable to nurse in. For me it’s all about comfort, and what I can wear to play with the kids easily in and not worry about it getting dirty because let’s face it, with 3 kids and one of them being a newborn nothing stays clean! Ha!

There are a few things that I will try and add to my capsule wardrobe over the next couple weeks. I am looking for a pair of cute, comfy, higher waisted shorts and a dress that I can easily nurse in so if you have any recommendations send them my way!
Here are the steps I took to clearing out my wardrobe and getting set for Project 333!
Step 1: Wardrobe Clearout
First I emptied all of my closet and drawers. It was like starting fresh and seeing a clean slate! I then went through tops, sweaters, pants etc. and made 4 piles. And while I did this my kids thought it would be fun to "help" me and throw the clothes all over the place haha!
1. A pile of things I love and wear every week
2. A maybe pile of things I may keep
3. A seasonal pile for fall/winter
4. And lastly, a pile to discard, sell or donate
Some questions to ask yourself while going through this:
Do you love it?
Would you buy it again?
If the answer is NO, then get rid of it! These questions especially help get through that maybe pile.
To be honest I was shocked at the piles of clothes and what I've had sitting in drawers barely worn for years! I then put all of the seasonal and maybe items in a box and this created SO much extra room in my closet! We live in a 100 year old country home and the closets are quite small, so this extra room makes a HUGE difference! I can now clearly see everything hanging in the closet and the drawers aren't stuffed to the brim.
Step 2: Organize
I made a list of categories and put the items into each:
1. Jeans (2)
2. Shorts (2)
3. Dress/Skirt/Rompers (2)
4.Tops/tanks (15)
5. Sweaters/cardigan/jean jacket (5)
6. Jewelry/accessories (necklaces, bracelets, rings not including wedding rings. I wear the same jewelry all the time so I'm just counting this as 1!)
7.Sandals (3)
8.Runners/shoes (2)
9.Bag/purse (1 - just a diaper bag!)
Step 3: Begin!
I'm a bit nervous I'll be tempted to buy things, but I'm giving this an honest effort! And as I mentioned above, it's okay to look for pieces which you will wear over and over again throughout the 3 months, and replace any items or add any that you deem necessary! It will be a good challenge to re-create outfits from the 33 items. So far I realize I wear a LOT of black and grey...like 80% of my clothes are monochrome, so I may need to add a bit of colour to my fall capsule wardrobe!
This isn't my wardrobe, but an example of what one could look like! I've linked a few other capsule wardrobe ideas on my Pinterest which you can check out here!
I'm curious if any of you have ever tried this before?!
I will try and post a few outfits on instastories which you can follow @lindsayadellekannwischer . Don't be alarmed when you see a LOT of black, grey and white hah! And maybe the odd kid's outfit because kids are so fun to dress!
xo,
Lindsay
