It’s hard to believe Riley will be going off to kindergarten come September! Everytime I think about it I start tearing up, I think it will be a harder transition for me than for him! He has grown so much in the last 6 months, from the way he talks, helps out, moved to a bunk bed and tried a lot of new activities for the first time!
Some "Firsts" for Riley
This winter he has had done a lot of new and exciting things, and it's amazing to watch him come out of his comfort zone and try something for the first time! While we were in Aruba he swam without his water wings for the first time and showed so much confidence in swimming! He used to be very timid around water and couldn't stand getting water in his face (I think a lot of kids are like this at first!) but now he's jumping in and doing "tricks", trying to dive. He also went kitesurfing with his uncle for the first time! He held onto the back of his legs and they even did a few jumps together!

Some other firsts include ice fishing and skiing! He's only caught one fish to date, but he loves going with daddy in their friends ice fishing shack and packing snacks. He also went skiing at a ski hill near our house with Scott and if you ask him about it he will tell you how he is learning to "pizza" his skis and how he went on the chairlift! I'm already excited for future family ski trips to the mountains!

And how could I forget the new bunkbed! Brynn and Riley are now bunkbed buddies! Riley is on the top (although it took a bit convincing at first but now he loves it) and Brynn is on the bottom. I'm finding they are getting along better since sharing a room and I love hearing them chatter to one another before bed and in the morning.

Interests
He is still very much into trucks and trailers/hitches, but what takes the cake are nerf guns! He loves shooting at a target and playing with nerf guns. He got his first one at Christmas and it's been a favourite. He also likes dinosaur books, shovelling the snow outside (hope this lasts forever!) and pretending to go to work.
Food
Riley is pretty well-rounded eater. Right now his favourite meal is tacos! If he could have them everyday he probably would! He is similar to me in that he could eat the same couple things for breakfast everyday and never get sick of them. He has boiled eggs, toast and fruit in the morning. He loves helping in the kitchen and making his own breakfasts. He has even made breakfast for Brynn and I! (with some supervision, don't worry! haha). He has had a crazy huge appetite lately which I'm pretty sure is a growth spurt because he also has said his legs hurt off and on.
Big Brother
Riley loves to feel the baby kick and prays for the baby. He still thinks its a boy. He has had some practice with his little baby cousins helping with them, holding them and playing with them! He also helps Brynn put her jacket and boots on, and was one of her biggest cheerleaders when we were potty training her! He tells her what preschool is going to be like for her next year and that she HAS to listen to her teachers. It’s so cute to watch them have little conversations! Helping out and acts of service is definitely one of his love languages, and it's amazing to see this grow and develop in him, from unloading the dishwasher, to helping shovel snow, take out the garbage, vacuuming, he rarely will complain and will jump to the task and help out!

Personality
Riley is a morning person and is usually the first one awake! He wakes up at 6:30 (or earlier) everyday and will either come snuggle or help himself to a banana for his "first breakfast". haha! He still has the occasional meltdown, and if he's up too late at night he can be really grumpy, so we put him to bed around 7:30. He loves to chat, and it's so sweet to hear him ask Scott, "How was your day today? What did you do at work?" Being his mom is such a joy and I couldn't ever imagine life without him!
xo,
Lindsay
