This year I decided to make a few New Year’s resolutions. I’m usually not one for this, but I thought why not set some goals for this year that are attainable and will lead to more purposeful living. So often we set unrealistic goals or expectations and then feel defeated when they aren’t met. Becoming a mom I remember feeling this way a lot! I thought I should be able to get so much done, exercise daily, make healthy meals, have a clean house, work, plan activities for the kids, and the list goes on! What was I thinking?! I set myself up for failure by having perfectionist and unreasonable goals be my measurement, and if I fell short (which I did!) there would be a sense of failure. God has worked so much in this area of my life and I’m so thankful for his unfailing grace!

I came across this post by Ann Voskamp that was all about setting purposeful ways of living. This is what I needed to hear as I wrote my resolutions for this year! These are a few excerpts from the post that really hit me!

"Brilliant doesn’t matter, if you can’t get out of bed. Talent doesn’t mean a thing, if you let Fear be some terrorist that takes you hostage. Potential doesn’t add up to anything, if you get addicted to perfectionism because perfectionism is slow death by self."

"When you rest in Perfect Love — discipline comes easily because you’re being a disciple of Perfect Love — you’re following Perfect Love.

And Perfect Love says you don’t to have show anyone up — you just have to show up.

Perfect Love says you don’t have to impress anyone — you just have to press on.

Perfect Love says when you mess up — He’ll pick you up… and when you can’t carry on, He’ll carry you."

This year is about showing up - being present and putting away the "screen" more often.

This year is about embracing the little things, the failures or setbacks and knowing God is working in and through them.

This year is about giving back and counting blessings - focussing on the gifts he has given us and giving back.

What are your "resolutions"?

Looking back on the wonderful memories 2017 brought and looking forward to everything 2018 has in store!

Happy New Year Friends!!

Love,

Lindsay
