Summer is my absolute favourite season! The warmth, sunshine, flowers, smells and sounds of summer are the best! We planted the garden a few weeks ago and things are coming up which totally excites me! I don't know why every year I'm surprised when things sprout up, I stand in awe at the plants and vegetables and feel like the luckiest, blessed garden mama!

Riley loves helping plant the garden and I let him pick out one thing he would like to plant. Any guesses what he picked? ...Pumpkins! Now just hoping they won't take over my whole garden haha! I'm still a newbie at planting a garden but I've learned a thing or two over the past couple years:
1. When the seed package says how far to space the seeds and rows they aren't lying! My first year I planted everything nice and close - I must have thought the plants didn't care about personal space (like children), but boy was I wrong!
2. Sometimes weeds can be tricksters and disguise as plants - I'm onto you! I used to have no idea what was a weed and a plant so I would let everything grow and then have to weed like a maniac to get it under control.
That's the extent of my major garden lessons this far but I'm sure I'll learn a thing or 100 this year as well. I would love to learn to can this summer so that's my major goal! (tips are welcome!)
Summer is such nice break from having to wear layers of clothing and jackets, snow pants and mittens! It erases (nearly) all memories of the cold, freezing temperatures.
“What good is the warmth of summer, without the cold of winter to give it sweetness.” - John Steinbeck

Every summer I make a rough list of things we would love to do, see and explore. If I don't write it down I will forget what we thought of so writing it down is so helpful! Anyone else love to make lists? It calms me, eases anxiety, and it's also fun to use those colourful pens and create a beautiful list. I thought I'd include that list here as it may give you some ideas for activities this summer!
Some things we would love to do this summer include:
-go to tinkertown (a little kids amusement paradise)
-the zoo. Riley loves it at the zoo and they apparently have some new dinosaurs in their dinosaur exhibit this year!
-exploring the Forks
-annnual strawberry/raspberry picking
-hiking in the Whiteshell (we love pinepoint and it's not too long with the kids!)
-going to the cabin/beach
-snuggling our new baby cousins!
-waterski/surf
-swim a ton
-splash pads
-lots of play dates
-bike rides
-ice cream dates
-blow lots of bubbles and use a lot of sidewalk chalk is a must with kids haha!
-campfires and wiener roasts/smores
-folklorama
-learn to can and make salsa
-hanging in the hammock
-wild blueberry and saskatoon picking
-playing outside. Brynn loves to swing and Riley is a little monkey on the play structure.
-read some new books

The snuggle is real for R, holding his one month old cousin. Seriously can't get over these two!

Super cheesy smile while holding her other new cousin! Can't get enough!
What are you planning this summer and if you have any activities for kids I'd love to hear them!
Love,
Lindsay
